Scrum Master in New York, NY

Scrum Master Job Description

Scrum masters guide and coach Scrum teams on how to use Agile practices and principles for software development to deliver high-quality products and services. Candidates for this position typically need extensive experience working in an Agile environment, ideally with the Scrum project management framework. However, many employers also accept experience with methods such as Kanban and tools like Jira and Confluence. Soft skills are a must, including problem-solving, strategic thinking and negotiation abilities. IT experience, especially in software development or engineering, can be a plus. A bachelor’s degree and 3 to 4 years of project development experience is often preferred, as is the Certified Scrum Master (CSM) credential. Large organizations may seek candidates with knowledge of the SAFe framework for scaling Agile across the enterprise.

Typical scrum master duties:

  • Ensuring team members understand the Scrum framework and adhere to Scrum theory, practice, and guidelines
  • Facilitating and supporting all Scrum events such as Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective
  • Coaching the Scrum team to perform at a high level, using appropriate development techniques to drive continuous improvement
  • Ensuring a good relationship between the Scrum team and the product owner and other key internal and external stakeholders
